The Story of Wilkinson Farm
Maria and Steve founded Wilkinson Farm Quarter Horses in 1996 with the purchase of the magnificent buckskin stallion, Assert N Te. However Maria has been breeding and showing Quarter Horses for the past 30 years.
As a child obsessed with horses, all horses and any horses, and constantly badgering her parents Maria eventually became the proud owner of a lovely part Arab mare at the tender age of 14. During her childhood Maria had always been drawn to the western breed horses and was particularly fascinated by the Quarter Horse. It wasn't long before she purchased her first Quarter Horse. A black buckskin first cross mare by Cassius Deck.
This was to be the start of a life long love affair.
Maria has been blessed to have met many wonderful people on this life long journey and is grateful to those that been generous enough to lend a helping hand along the way. Without them we would not be where we are today.
The horses now owned by the stud are the culmination of the last 30 years of breeding, Most of which trace back to Maria's original purchase, the black buckskin mare by Cassius Deck, Bimbimbee.
In 1995 Maria married Steve, and the non-horsy Steve found himself literally saddled to a horse addict. As the saying goes “if you can't beat em, join em”. So in 1996 with the purchase of Assert N Te, Wilkinson Farm Quarter Horses was founded, and the wheels were set in motion to acquire a broodmare band worthy of this wonderful horse.
Unfortunately a tragic accident claimed the life of Assert N Te in May 2002.
The loss of Assert N Te devastated Maria and Steve to such an extent that the majority of the broodmare band was disbanded. All that remained was a small number of exceptional individuals whom Maria could not bare to part with.
